Elementary course: Enrolment
The elementary (beginners) course is open to the public for enrolment in December each year. The new term commences from mid-January. Elementary classes are fully-registered for 2008. Thanks to the enthusiastic support from the public.

Commencing August 2008 - JLPT Preparatory course, conversation course for beginners.

Vacancies are limited. Registration is on a first-come-first served basis.

Certificate of Graduation
Students who passed the final exam will be awarded with certificate from the JCS Japanese Language School. Certificates of merit from the Japanese Cultural Society and Embassy of Japan in Singapore are awarded to outstanding and top students.

Free Courses for JCS students
Free sessions on Japanese tea ceremony, origami, Japanese drum & dance etc. A Japanese corner for JCS students to practise conversation is organized from time to time.

REGISTRATION FOR HIGHER-LEVEL COURSE
Qualifying Test
For Intermediate and Advanced courses, applicants are required to sit and pass the appropriate qualifying test.

J.L.P.T Certificate
Applicants with Japanese language proficiency certificates (J.L.P.T) issued by the Japan Foundation may enrol for admission to a higher level course according; as follows:

Level 4: Intermediate course
Level 3: Advanced I course
Level 2: Advanced II course
Level 1: Further-Advanced course

J.L.P.T certificate holders are exempted from the qualifying test.


JCS Library
  • The JCS Japanese Language School has a library, video-viewing room and a tatami room to facilitate your effective learning at a leisure pace.
  • Our library is open from Monday to Friday from 2.30pm to 8.00pm.

Regular Course
The course duration for each level of the regular course is one year scheduled in 3 terms.(1st Term: from 2nd week of Jan to 3rd week of Apr / 2nd Term: from 1st week of May to 1st week of Aug / 3rd Term: from 3rd week of Aug to end-November.)

  • The Regular Course is conducted once a year.
  • Course duration: 1 year per respective level
  • Course levels: Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II & Further-Advanced levels
  • Course schedule (exception): The once a week class scheduled on weekdays is not available for elementary course.
  • New classes commence from the month of January.
  • Enquiries & Enrolment : In December each year.
  • Course schedule: 2 hours per week (@twice a week x 1 hr OR once a week x 2 hrs)

Intensive Course
The course duration for each level is 5 1/2 months.(Course schedule: Jan-Jun / Jun-Nov.)


  • The Intensive Course is conducted twice a year.
  • Course duration: 51/2 months
  • Course levels: Elementary & Intermediate levels
  • New classes commence from the month of January and June.
  • Enquiries & Enrolment : In December & May each year.
  • Course schedule: 4 hours per week (@twice a week x 2 hrs)

Conversation Course


  • Elementary & Intermediate levels
  • Course duration: 3 months
  • Course schedule: 2 hours per week (@twice a week x 1 hr OR once a week x 2 hrs)
  • Availability: Feb, May or Aug.

JLPT Preparatory Course
This is a short term course (24 hrs) to prepare students for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted in December. Applicants should have substantial knowledge of the language to attend this class. It is based on the JLPT test materials and concentrates mainly on listening/comprehension.


  • Course duration: 3 months
  • Course schedule: 2 hours per week
  • Availability: Feb, May or Aug.

Business Japanese
This is a short term course (24 hrs) to prepare students for the Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT) organized by JETRO. Applicants should have a good command of the language to attend this class (advanced-level). It concentrates on listening/comprehension and conversation.


  • Course duration: 3 months
  • Course schedule: 2 hours per week (@once a week x 2 hrs)
  • Availability: Feb.
